Ashworth is a self-contained community very similar to a traditional village. People get to know one another. At Ashworth people try to live up the highest ideals: caring, sharing, respect for one another, and a willingness to work together to solve the problems of day-to-day living in an affordable, safe, secure environment. In a co-op everyone is obligated to participate in some way. Work that can be done by members is done by members. There are also many committees doing many things: preparing budgets, overseeing hall cleaning duties, enforcing parking regulations, security patrols, planning social events, gardening and lawn maintenance etc.

Annual and Move out Inspection Committee
This group conducts annual inspections of members’ unit and move-out inspections when members leave the co-op. This ensures that the suites are not left in a poor condition. This a small and productive committee of less than 10 members. Committee members work in pairs to conduct inspections using a predefined checklist. Each meeting involves hands on planning to work towards the next months’ inspections.
Common Area Committee
This group inspects the high rise and town house hallways to ensure members are doing their hall cleaning duties. They also inspect the stairways to ensure they are clean and safe. This committee consists of organizers, inspectors and data analysts. The organizer sends out packages to all inspectors. The inspectors go out in pairs to inspect and ensure the hallways are clean. The data analyst compiles all data from the inspection for analysis. Nearly all the members of Ashworth are engaged by this committee. Members in the high rise and townhouses ,with the C and D suffixes, are expected to participate in cleaning the hallways.
Member Selection Committee
This group recruits, selects and interviews potential members. They also host an annual orientation for new members. Committee members work in pairs and interview applicants that have attended an orientation.
Election Planning Committee
This group meets to discuss, plan and execute the annual elections for the Board of Directors each year.
This group assists in the financial management of the Co-op through review of quarterly financial statements and recommendations to the Board. They prepare and present the annual budget to the Membership at a General Members’ Meeting.
This group is responsible for planting and maintaining the co-op grounds. They also make recommendations for improvements to the grounds when necessary. Furthermore, they host a spring clean up day where all co-op members are invited to participate. The cleaning ensures that plants can be easily planted in the following weeks.
They also maintain our website for the members and community.
Member Appreciation Committee
This large committee of members plan social and fundraising events and activities. For example they host the annual Multicultural Day and trick or treat activities.
This group write, edit and produces our “Around the Square” newsletter for co-op members.
Parking and Security Committee
This group does patrols of the high-rise, underground garage, and the common areas of the high-rise to ensure members’ safety. They also ensure that all cars on the property are using the spots as designated.
This committee is responsible for organizing the food for general membership meetings and other co-op events.
